Dazhao is located in Dazhao Qianjie, Yuquan District of Hohhot. Built originally in the 6th year of the reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1578), it is a temple built by Tumete Tribal Chief Alehan in order to celebrate his conversion to Buddhism.
Dazhao is the first Gelugpa Buddhism monastery built in Inner Mongolia. Its grand scale and beautiful relics have made it one of the most renowned temples in Mongolian grassland. It is a key protected relic of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. |
