Located in a place 25 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Jinci Temple is King Jin's ancestral temple. It was built in the Beiwei period in memory of “Shuyu”, the second son of King Zhouwu.
Jinci Temple includes scores of classical-garden architectures, of which Saint Mother Hall, Yuzhao Feiliang and Offerings Hall are praised as “National Treasure”. Inside the temple, Zhou Cypress and the pagoda tree of the Sui Dynasty, Never Aging Spring and Figures of Maidservants are praised as “Three peerless works in Jinci Temple”. Never Aging Spring is also called “the first spring in Jinyang”. Zhou Cypress is on the north side of the Shenmu Palace, has a history of more than 2,800 years. There were two cypresses originally, which were called “Qi'nian ancient cypress”, but only one survives now. The pagoda tree of the Sui Dynasty is the most flourishing one among all the pagoda trees in the ancestral temple, and it becomes extremely green and has dense shade in spring and summer. There are 43 handmaiden statues sculptured in the Song Dynasty whose finery and shape are different from each other, and which are of great value ih history, science and art. |
