Located in a place 20 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Longshan Grotto is the sole Taoism grotto in China, which was built by Quanzhen Taoist Song Defang in the Yuan Dynasty. Longshan Taoism Grotto includes Xuhuang niche, Sanqing niche, Woru niche, Xuanzhen niche, Three Rabbit niche, Qizhen niche and another two debating niches. In the grotto, there are eight caves altogether, in which there are more than 40 stone statues. The styles of these stone statues and those in the Buddhist grottoes are quite different. Longshan grotto is a key historical cultural relics unit under state protection. |
