Liangzhu Culture Museum

Located at No.78 Liangbo Road, Liangzhu Township, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, the museum features the archaeological researching achievements on Liangzhu culture. Liangzhu culture can be traced back 4,000 to 5,300 years, mainly distributed around the Tai Lake. It was named as Liangzhu because the related historical site was firstly discovered at Liangzhu township. According to the experts, ancient Chinese civilization started from it. Therefore, Liangzhu site is a powerful evidence to certify China 5,000 year civilization history.

In 1994, the museum was opened in order to present the Liangzhu history to the world. The name of the museum is inscribed by China' president Jiang Zeming. With a floor space of 1,600 square meters, the museum covering an area of 10,000 square meters. It is a modern structure of imposing grandeur in the ancient architectural style. A 13 meters high Jade Pillar (Yu Zong), a kind of sacrificial tool, stands in front of it. The museum is divided into four exhibition halls. Over 400 Liangzhu culture relics are displayed. In the first exhibition hall, the words “dawn of civilization” inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu are presented as the title of the whole exhibition which epitomizes the historical and academic value of Liangzhu.
