Introduction of Fujian

Fujian is located along the southeast coast of China, bordered Zhejiang Province, Jiangxi Province and Guangdong Province, and faced Taiwan across the Straits, called “min” for short. The brief name of “Min”, is derived from Min River, the greatest river within the province.

Fujian governs Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Putian, Longyan, Sanming, Nanping and Ningde (nine municipal cities), as well as 85 subordinated counties, cities and districts (including Jinmen County).

Fujian has strong local characteristics, and is the cradle of Mazu Culture. Fujian is one of important emigrants' hometowns in China. The overseas Chinese whose hometown is Fujian spread all over the world, especially in southeast Asian countries. Fujian has continuous mountains, devious coastline, long history, many scenic spots and historical sites, which is depicted as “a mountainous area in southeast China”. Fujian is quite famous for its puppet shows, among which Zhangzhou's “cloth puppet show” and Quanzhou's “lift-strings puppet show” are the most famous. Fuzhou lacquer is reputed as one of the three wonders of Chinese craftworks. Fujian is the hometown of oolong as well, and its tea brands “Tie guanyin” and “Da hongpao” enjoy good reputation in the world.
