Originating in Sanbao hill at the southern foot of the Wuyi Range, the Jiuqu Stream snails 9.5 kilometers through Xingcun Town and Mountain Wuyi Scenic Resort to form nine turns and 18 bends which extend around the hills like a floating belt around a celestial beauty.
Aboard a bamboo raft downstream, the visitor may feast his or her eyes on the landscape of hills and waters. The Jiuqu Stream is flanked by high mountain peaks and red cliffs on both banks. Each of the turns on the stream presents a beautiful, seculded scene. When sailing upstream in ancient times, the visitor came to the first turn in front of the Wuyi Palace at Qingchuan, which boasts of Great King Peak, Manting Peak, Sangu Rock, Huangu Crag, Tieban Peak, Shuiguang Rock, Wanchun Garden and other scenic attraction. Turning right at Tieban Peak and sailing north from Yuxiang Pool, the visitor arrived at the second turn with the graceful Yunu Peak, Xianguan Crag, and other scenic spots. The section from Leike Shoal to Xiandiao Terrace is the third turn flanked by Xiaozang Peak, Xianyou Crag, Cheqian Crag, and steep cliffs. The fourth turn extends from north of Wolong Pool to Guzhui Shoal and has Dazang Peak, Wolong Pool, the Yucha (imperial tea) Plantation, the Lesser Jiuqu Stream, Shijian Rock, and Tishi Crag. The fifth turn between the Lesser Jiuqu Stream and Pinglian Ferry makes up of the best Scenery in Mountain Wuyi. There are Yunwo, Wuyijingshe(a cottage), Chadong Cave, Yinping Peak, and other sposts of scenic beauty. Beyond the fifth turn is the sixth turn, which extends to Laoya Shoal and boasts of Tianyou Peak, Shaibu Crag, and Xiangsheng Crag. The seventh turn from Laoya Shoal to Takong Shoal near Baihua village is known for Sanyang Peak, Sanceng Peak, and Tianhu Peak. The section to the east and west of Furong Shoal is the eight turn, known as “a zoo on water”, it features bizarre peaks and rocks, such as the Shangxia(above and below) Water Turtle, Xiangbi Crag, Luotuo Peak, and Mao'er Rock. The ninth turn flows from a spot near Zhangyan Crag to a flatland at the foot of Qiyun Peak. There are Baiyun Crag, Shizixiqiu(a rock), and broad fertile land. Nowadays, tourists prefer to make a downstream tour of the Jiuqu Stream that will enable them to have a chance to admire the scenery on both banks while listening to an introduction by the rafter.
