| | Island Ring Road [edit this] | | The Island Ring Road is about 31 kilometers in length, and 44-60 meters in width, equipped with 6 dual turn lanes. The Island Ring Road along the seashore is one of the main scenic trunk roads in Xiamen. The construction of the Island Ring Road adhered to the principle of “Facing the sea and leaving the most beautiful beach for the people”. It fully embodies the characteristics of the sub-tropical landscape.
By the end of 1999, the 10 kilometers section of highway between the Huli Hill Fortress and Xiamen International Exhibition Center was completed, which can be divided into 4 sections, respectively Zeng Cuo An section, Tai Yang Wan (Sun Bay) section, Huang Cuo Section and Qian Pu section. And the Zeng Cuo An Comprehensive Tourist Service Center, Huang Cuo Tourist Service Center and Qian Pu Exhibition Centre formed along the road. The road is fresh, elegant, and with beautiful landscape. In 2000, it was appraised as one of the 20 famous scenic spots. The 9 kilometers coastline between Xiamen University and Qian Pu, called the “golden coastline”, is a coastal green corridor, which integrated the tourism, sightseeing and recreation.
The shoreline facing Jinmen is garlanded with a beautiful landscape. Lawns and gardens, and paths for hikers, bicyclists and roller bladders surround this road. With good binoculars you can see soldiers patrolling Taiwan-controlled Jinmen, a mere 3 miles offshore. Catch the action on Lantern Festival Eve, and Mid Autumn Festival, when both Jinmen and Xiamen set off spectacular fireworks.
Take a bus or taxi to one of the picnic areas, and have lunch on the broad grassy lawns that front the miles of beaches. Enjoy the sand and surf, and the backdrop of islands and freighters, or you may skip the picnic and have tea or a meal by the beach, where you can rent beach umbrellas, floats, mats, rubber boats, etc. | Edit by: Dorothy
| Jinbang Park [edit this] | | Jinbang Park is in the center of Xiamen City and besides the railway station. There are four main sites inside the park. It is a nice place for meditating on the past. | Edit by: Dorothy | |
| Hongshan Park [edit this] | | Hongshan Park is located on Hongshan Hill in the central part of South Siming Road. There used to be a Hongshan Temple before which the wind quickly changes directions and as it rains, the drizzle falls vertically and horizontally, thus forming one of the eight major sights of Xiamen——“Hongshan Weaving Rain”. At the begining of the Qin Dynasty, General Zheng Chenggong built a fortress on the hill and its relics are still preserved. Now the hill top has been turned into a park with flowers and trees planted everywhere, high rocks and precipices surrounded by stone pathways which wind in the dense shade of woods.
Looking at the Gulangyu Island from the western hillside is like enjoying a horizontal scroll of traditional Chinese painting of mountains and waters. By the fortress, there is a castle in ancient style——Jia'er Garden. Inside the garden are ponds, pavilions, booths, flower terraces, grassplots, natural rockeries, and the elaborate craftwork——stone carving “sleeping child”. | Edit by: Dorothy
