Pineapple

Pineapple, whose systematic name is pineapple, is the fourth one of Lingnan four well-known fruits. It originally produces in the South America Brazil, it is the tropics, the subtropics famous fruit, and spread to the Guangzhou area in 17th century. Sweet Orange

The sweet orange is one of the popular fruit in Guangzhou. Sweet orange peel shows golden yellow, its shape is artistic, the juice is especially rich, and has very high nutritional value. The Luo Gang willow orange (is generally called Luo Gang orange) of Guangzhou white clouds area has particular flavor. Its peel is flimsy and tight, the juice is abundant, it also indistinctly passes a unique delicate fragrance.Luo Gang orange takes the dark willow navel orange as the traditional good fruit. Each fruit base has a dark circle design. This design is said to originate from the Southern Song Dynasty time. The Luo Gang orange first ancestor Zhong Ruxian went to the capital to take a test, and coexisted guest-quarters with Wen Tianxiang in the hotel. Zhong Ruxian had a bag of family navel oranges, then put out and shared with Wen Tianxiang, After Wen Tianxiang ate, he acclaimed certainly, and extemporaneously composed a poem. Afterwards, this matter was known by the emperor, and assigned Lingnan to present such tribute. When choosing tributes, they pressed down the circle mark in each orange base to distinguish. Gradually, when the orange was mature, all naturally long had the dark circle, this then was today's dark willow navel orange.

There are many other kinds of fruits, such as pomegranate, mango, lemon, San Hua pear, big banana, yellow peel and so on.

Longyan

Longyan is one kind of fruit that may compare favorably with the litchi in the Lingnan good fruit savors. The Guangzhou area has cultivated widely at the beginning of the Han Dynasty of China. Longyan fruit shapes circle, its shell appears blue yellow, it is big that looks like a projectile, and its pulp are thinner than the litchi, but it is equally crystal clear and sweet. The Longyan has many varieties; the kind of Shi Xia is most famous, which is well known for thick pulp, small nucleus, high sugar proportion, clear and melodious sweet and rich juice.

There is also folklore about Longyan's origin. Guangzhou is near to the South China Sea, Formerly there had the strip wicked dragon in the sea often came ashore and injured the human and animals. A brave and clever young people fight against the wicked dragon, in the war, he cut down its head, and the dragon eyeball fell to the ground, and then sprouted the tree, the fruit on it then is called Longyan.

The Shi Xia Longyan originally produced the Shi Xia village; it has settled down in the Xin Jiao town of Guangzhou Hai Zhu area for more than 200 years. The Shi Xia Longyan of this town distributes in Xiao Zhou, Lun Tou, Tu Hua, Bei Shan, and Dong Feng etc. The Tu Hua village is most famous for its Shi Xia Longyan. The annual output of Guangzhou is approximately 1,000 tons, and mostly export Hong Kong, Macao and the European and American various countries. The Shi Xia Longyan of Suo Xi village, Hua Dong town of Hua Du region, and the Big Circle Longyan of Chi Ni town, Hua Du region are famous as well.

Mango

Mango belongs to mango genus and lacquer tree family. About 10-20 meters high, mango tree belongs to evergreen arbor, featuring thick and big root and round crown. Its fruit is reputed as the “king of tropical fruits”, which is ball or kidney-shaped, in light green or yellow color. Its flesh and juice are sweet, which can be tasted freshly or processed into dried mango and mango juice. There are several mango species in Guangzhou such as Zihuamang, Guixiangmang, Chuanmang, Lupimang and Tumang, etc. The best species of mango is Xiamao Xiangmang, planted at Xiamao Willage of Shijing Towm, Baiyun District. The flesh of “Xiaomao Xiangmang” is soft, sweet and fragrant. It is said that the Xiangmang was first introduced to Guangzhou in Qing Dynasty, and then was appointed as tribute because of its top quality. Now, Xiangmang trees are very precious with only a few existing and yielding about 500 kilograms fruits annually.

Guava

Originally planted in America, the guava has been introduced to Guangzhou for over 200 years. Now, it is mainly planted in Haizhu District, Panyu and Zengcheng. Its species includes Jinhong, Gongfenhong, Zaoshouri, Chushihong, Qiyueshou, etc. Most guavas are gourd-shaped and in cyan or light yellow. Its flesh is delicate, fragrant and sweet, with unique flavor. The guava can be eaten freshly or made into tinned fruit or soft packing drink. The better one is the Datang guava.
