Yabuli Skiing Vacation Area is a tourists' resort at the state 4A level. It is situated 20O km to the east of Harbin. It occupies a land of 68 square km, and is part of Yabuli State Forest Park. Yabuli is the origin of China's skiing tourism. The show competition events of the third Asian Winter Games were held here in l996. It is the highest winter games ever held in China up to now. Yabuli Skiing Vacation Area owns an competition skiing course (elevation at 1,374 m, with maximum fall head of 900 m) and a tourist skiing course for leisure skiing (elevation at 1,000 m, with maximum fall head of 600 m). There are altogether more than 30 skiing courses at primary, intermediate, urse is 10,00O m long. The total length of suspension cableway is 10,000 m. There are 5,000 sets of snow sport devices to rent. The ice period lasts for 170 days, and skiing period lasts for 120 days (from December every year to March the next year), both being the longest in China's skiing business.

    The Window of Europe and Asia in the West part of Harbin is an important base for ice and snow festival activities. The 3rd Window of European and Asian Customs Fair on the Snow take Winter Fairy Tales as its main theme. A series of characteristic activities suitable to middle school and primary school students are held. Depending on the terrain and European buildings in the park, the fair is divided into 5 scenery zones, i.e. Fine Snow Sculpture Zone, Snow Sculpture Competition Zone, Skiing and Playing Zone, Forest Sea and Snow Land Zone, and the Zone of Chunwa Playing in Winter. At the same time, snow sculpture competition is held for university Students, and winter camp will be held for middle school and primary school students. At this show, more tl1an lO0 snow sculpture works are designed and made. Totally 15,000 cubic meters of snow are used.

    The Grand World of Ice and Snow is the dragon-head brand of the ice and snow festival. The 3rd Grand World of Ice and Snow move to the north band of the Songhua River, to the west of the Sun Island. The park is a rectangular one with 700 meters in length from east to west, and 300 meters in width from south to north.
    It take the flying Great dragon and thousands of galloping horsses as the main theme, presenting the unique glamour of the ice and snow art to domestic and foreibgn tourists, making use of the features of ice and snow, by way of multi-dinensional presentation methods, with combination of humane scenes and natural landscape, combination of concrete and abstract contents, and combination of enjoyment and recreation. Emphasis is put on the traditional Chinese history and culture and rich glamour of the city with brand new creative ideas, artistic presentation, mass participation, and recreation of the grand world of the ice and snow. The Grand World of Ice and Snow is divided into 4 zones of activities and 10 theme scenery zones. Totally 80,000 cubic meters of ice and 120,000 cubic meters od snow are used. The site take an area of about 300,000 square meters.

    The well-known Sun island Snow Sculpture has been an important part of Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival.Silver white snow sculptures can give visitor wonderful and dream-like imagination and feeling. The 14th Snow Sculpture Artistic Show take the “Soul of Snow,and the Tour of Winter” as its main theme. Emphasis is put on the intrgral consciousness, characterstic consciousness, and fine product consiciousness. Innovation is made in planning and layout, form of artistic presentation, mass participation, and way of creation. The show consists of 8 scenery zones, including 3 large snow sculptures, 3 large snow structures among total 400 snow sculptures. Totally 40,000 cubic meters of snow are used.

    Ice-Lantern Exhibition is Harbin's traditional activity. It lasts from January to late February every year with Zhao Lin Park as its designated location.
    Ice-lanterns can date back to ancient times. It was said that some fishermen made rough and simple ice-lanterns made of ice just for lighting. With the time passed, ice-lanterns embodied their cultural features and artistic fascination gradually. The making of ice-lanterns and ice sculptures started in the 1960s, the shape and color were very simple, but the kind of man-made crafts really enriched people's life. In recent years, with the progress of science and technology especially the rapid development of electronics and optics, the making techniques and process are becoming more and more advanced and complicated. Modern lightings, acoustic and other electronic equipment have been widely used. Varieties and shapes have been increased from simple ice anterns to attractivel and vivid ice-sculptures, ancient architects, world marvelous spectacles and life like figures. All the ice-lanterns give people endless enjoyment and appreciation.
    At night, the decorated ice-lanterns are brilliant and colorful. Strolling in Zhao Lin Park and viewing the fine ice gatherings with grotesque shapes and gaudy colors, all the visitors can hardly praising the craftsmen's fine skills and the advanced technologies in modern society. Now, Ice-lanterns enjoy high reputation in the world. Harbin citizens are very proud of them.
