| | Nanyue Temple [edit this] | | The Nanyue Temple locates in the north street of Nanyue Town, one of the largest and most complete ancient architectures in China's Five Famous Mountains.
The temple is a palace style complex, possessing the features of Forbidden City in Beijing. Its land coverage is 98,000m2, the temple plays a significant role along with Tai'an City's Dai Temple, Dengfeng City's Zhongyue Temple, in both China and overseas. From the entrance to the back door, you will get through nine doors or halls: the Door of Lingxing, the pavilion of Panlong, the door of Zhengchuan, the Pavilion of Yubei, the door of Jiaying, the door of Yuying, the Primary Hall, the Sleeping Palace, the Back door. The primary hall is the largest building, which is also named the Grand Hall or Holy Hall. Its height is 24m, there are 72 stone columns in this hall, which represent the 72 peaks in Mountain Hengshan. The dragon and phoenix woodcarving on the eaves and the door are very nice fine arts. Around the hall, between the stone columns there are 144 pieces of white marble double-sides relief sculptures which was made in 1705, the Qing Dynasty (44th year of Emperor of Kangxi). Beyond the hall, there is a white stone dragon in the stage, which is ready to fly. And there are also the ancient painted pottery on the roof and the painting on the corridor wall, they are all elegant arts. The temple is fenced and portioned by red walls and the turrets. The stream flowing along with the walls. There are 8 Taoism temples to the east, and 8 Buddhism temples to the west. In the temple the pilgrims may find hundreds of and stone inscriptions. The temple was constructed in the Tang Dynasty (725 A.D., 13th year of Emperor Kaiyuan), and then reconstructed or expanded for 16 times.
