| | Youyiguan Pass [edit this] | | First constructed in the Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty, Youyiguan Pass is situated in Pingxiang City at the border area between China and Vietnam.
Stretching more than 330 meters, the two sides of the building zigzag downwards to the feet of the two mountains respectively. Due to its spectacular appearance, it is praised as “the second pass on earth”. It is also one of the nine famous passes in China, and has always served as a strategic border defense in the southern frontier of China. In 1885, Feng Zicai, a famous general of the Qing Dynasty, annihilated French invaders with his army right here, achieving the world-famous Zhennanguan Victory. | Edit by: Tom
| Yuedong Guild Hall [edit this] | | Located at 22 Zhuangzhi Lu, Nanning City, the Yuedong Guild Hall was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty and so named because the building was funded by the visiting businessmen in Nanning from Guangdong Province. The Guild Hall was a triple compartment architectural complex with separate gates for each compartment, namely the front, the middle and the back, and both sides having passages, wing-rooms and stages. In the reign of Emperor Daoguang, the guild hall was rebuilt, and partly renovated in 1950. But in the late 60s, the middle and back compartments and the wing-rooms were pulled down. Till 1997, Nanning Municipal Government invested to completely renovate the guild hall to its original appearance. | Edit by: Tom | |
| Zuojiang Leaning Tower [edit this] | | The Zuojiang Leaning Tower was named Guilong Tower, only two kilometers eastwards away from Chongzuo County. Built of bricks in 1621, the 28-meter and 5-storey high hexangular tower is still standing intact on a giant stone in the middle of the Zuojiang River. The tower is leaning southwestwards by one meter, and that is why it is called Leaning Tower. Experts said that craftsmen deliberately tilted the tower to one side because of its foundation and for the concern of the wind from the river.
It is said that the tower was initially built only for three stories by a county magistrate, and the rest two stories were built by his successor. The leaning tower still stands firmly after over 370 years. | Edit by: Tom
