| | Historic Site of French Consulate [edit this] | | French consulate, from 1887 to 1950, has the longest history in Beihai. At that time, French consulate also surrogated affairs of Portugal and border business between China and Vietnam. The historic site is located in Beihai Guest Hotel. With 34.5 meters long, 20.7 meters wide, it has a total area of 636 sq.meters. The main building of the French consulate is concave with old trees and blooming flowers surrounded. It's the special building for honored guests. Many state leaders like Hu Yaobang, Jiang Zheming, Qiao Shi, Li Peng had ever stayed in it. | Edit by: Tom | |
| Historic Site of German Consulate [edit this] | | German established consulate organ in Beihai in 1886. 23 years later, they evacuated from Beihai. During the years, German merchant ships were flourish in shipping and trading. The historic site of German consulate was built in 1905. It has an area of 935 sq.meters with 23.1 meters long and 18.5 meters wide. On both sides of the porch, two 10 meters arc steps lead to the frontispiece. | Historic Site of British Consulate [edit this] | | In 1876, Beihai was designated as a trading port according to Sino-British Yantai Treaty. British consulate was built up in 1877. It is a two-floor quadrate western building with 47 meters long, 12 meters wide and a total area of 154 sq.meters. Its main building was kept well. Surrounded by a chain of camphor trees, environment of the site is very beautiful. A cornerstone marked in English words still stands inside the building. It's the only historical evidence of Sino-British Yantai Treaty in Beihai. | Edit by: Tom | |
| Historic Site of Beihai Custom Building [edit this] | | Beihai custom, called Beihai Guan, is one of the four earliest customs of Guangxi. It was also called Foreign Guan since custom authority was controlled by foreigners.
Foreign Guan building was built in 1883. From 1877 to 1936, tariff had ever reached more than 9,000 thousands tael. But the tariff was turned in soon as reparations after the unfair treaty. Beihai Guan was founded by Qing government nominally but actually a tool for the United Kingdom to rule our city.
The historic site of Beihai Guan is located in the yard of custom now. It has 3 floors with a perimeter of 18 meters. Its total area is 1,000 sq.meters. The site is typical evidence showing China occupied as semi-colony and losing the tariff sovereignty. | Edit by: Tom | |
| Historic Site of Bishop Building [edit this] | | Beihai diocese, one of the seven Catholicism dioceses of Guangdong Province, was founded in 1920. It was in charge of Catholicism affairs of 12 counties and cites like Qingzhou, Fangcheng, Lianzhou etc. The Bishop building was office of Beihai diocese. Episcopate is priestess of Catholicism having the authority to appoint and remove Father.
Bishop building was built between 1934 and 1935. It has two floors with 42 meters long, 17.84 meters wide and a total area of 750 sq.meters. People in Beihai all call it “Red Building” since it's beautiful and environment is really nice. It's one of the famous foreign buildings in Beihai. | Edit by: Tom | |
