This scenic spot is located at a highland on the seashore of Haigang District, Qinhuangdao. It is a small peninsula, but it was a natural pier in ancient times. This scenic area covers 19 hectares full of ancient buildings, gardens and sculptures, reflecting some major historical events and legends in the Warring States Period. When traveler are here, he can't help but think of the majestic scene of the Qin Dynasty Emperor Qin Shihuang begging the goods for longevity more than 2,000 years ago. Legend has it that he established the first feudal empire in Chinese history after he had defeated the other six states. He dreamed to live forever, like sky and earth. When he came here on his inspection, he sent many necromancers, boys and girls out to the sea to seek medicine for longevity. In fact, the so-called celestial mountain on the sea and medicine for longevity didn't exist. The people he sent would never come back. However, the parents of the boys and girls often went to the seashore begging for their return. After a long time it became a custom to walk on the pier. In memory of this custom, the Watching Sea Meeting is held on the 5th day of the fifth mouth in Chinese calendar every year, reviving the majestic scene of that time.
