Situated in the bordering area of Beijing, Shanxi Province, Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Zhangjiakou City is nicknamed “mountain city lying to the north of the Great Wall”, which is famed for its important strategic position.
There are a lot of historic relics that are scattered widely in the city. For instance, Dajing Gate, a strategic pass of the Great Wall, is a symbol of Zhangjiakou City. Mountain Fanshan at Zhuolu County, one of the cradles of the Chinese nation, is an ancient battlefield where Emperor Huang defeated Chiyou. In addition, there are attractive historic sites such as Daiwangcheng Grave Group of the Han Dynasty at Huaian County, Liao Grave ornamented with murals at Xuanhua County as well as Shuimu (jellyfish) Palace, Yunquan (clouds and springs) Temple, Qingyuan Building, etc.
