Changsha City is the capital of Hu'nan Province, lies at the lower reaches of the Xiangjiang River in the eastern part of Hu'nan Province, with the Xiangjiang River running across it.
Its name was first used in the Western Zhou Dynasty, and it was the ancient capital of Chu and Han Kingdom for 3,000 years. Changsha City is regarded as “Xiaoxiang Zhusi” with a lot of cultural heritages. As early as in the Song Dynasty, the famous School of Huxiang came into being; in the Ming and Qing Dynasties a lot of historical celebrities appeared one after another like Wang Fuzhi, Zeng Guofan, Zuo Zongtang, Tan Sitong and so on. It is also one of the “Cradles of Revolution”, and has witnessed the appearance of many patriotic personages such as Huang Xing, Cai E, Chen Tianbua and Song Jiaoren who made great contributions to the founding of a republic country in China. Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen, He Shuheng and Liu Shaoqi studied here in their early years, which laid a solid foundation for their later revolutionary activities.
