Hengyang City lies in the middle-by-south part of Hu'nan Province. It got its name from the fact that it is located to the south of Mountain Hengshan of Nanyue. It is also called City of Wild Geese.
In 1942, Hengyang was made Hengyang City, and then in 1980 promoted to a prefecture-level city. As the cross of Beijing-Guangzhou and Hu'nan-Gulin Railway Lines, it was the most important transport and political, economic and cultural center of southern Hu'nan.
With beautiful landscape, Hengyang has a lot of natural scenes and cultural heritages. About 45km north of Hengyang is The famous Nanyue Tourism Area. The major scenic spot are the Nanyue Grand Temple, the Nantai Temple, etc. Besides Mountain Hengshan, it is also famous for its “Eight Sights of Hengyang City”.
