| | Mountain Baoyang [edit this] | | Mountain Baoyang lies 4 kilometers southwest of Mancheng County, 25 kilometers west of Baoding City, and against Mountain Taihang on the west. The mountain faces the south, in a form like embracing the sun, and that's why it is called Mountain Baoyang (“bao” means “embrace”, and “yang” means “sun”). In 1989, it was nominated as a provincial scenic spot by Hebei Provincial Government.
There are many places of interest on the mountain. Temples are scattered everywhere in the scenic area, thus forming Mountain Baoyang culture featuring Buddhism. It is also called Mountain Huayang, and is “the No.1 place of interest in Mancheng”. There are mainly eight sights: “One-mu Stone” (a very huge stone), “Hundred-Step Corridor” (a long stone corridor), “ Climbing-the-Sky Ladder” (scores of natural stone steps), “ Holding-the-sky Tree” (a cliff projecting out as if making efforts to hold up the sky), “Dropping-water Hall” (a karst cave facing the south, more than six meters wide and deep), “ Heaven-and-Earth Cypress” (two cypresses having the same root), “Horn Cave” (a horn-like karst cave, scores of meters deep, with springs in it) and “Pearl Pit” (a semi-circle pit). According to folklore, Pearl Pit was a place where a one-thousand-year-old spider made pills of immortality and cultivated vital energy. Because he went against God's will in order to rescue the local people, he was struck by a thunderbolt, and as a result, a smooth and hollow pit was left there. For the sake of gracefulness, the later generations changed the Chinese character “蛛” (meaning “spider”) into “珠” (meaning “pearl”).

| Lingshan Dragons Cave [edit this] | | The Chinese people are often called “the descendants of the dragon”. If you want to appreciate various shapes of dragons, you must come to Lingshan Dragons Cave, which lies at the foot of Mountain Lianhua in Lingshan Town, Quyang County.
According to the experts' research, the area around Dragons Cave is typical karst relief with fissure-typed natural karst caves formed by diastrophe within more than 100 million years. Dragons cave is just like a 2,800-meter-long dragon, and most of the sights in the cave are also in the form of dragons. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, with a constant temperature of 17 to 18 ℃.
Dragons Cave consists of three parts, namely, the Ancient Ape Men Cave, the Dragons Palace and the Underground Maze. The Ancient Ape Men Cave is several hundred meters long. In the cave, the deposit of the ashes left by the ancient ape-men living here is 12 meters long, 3 meters wide and 2 meters deep, a rare scene in China. In the depth of the cave, there is the deposit of the fossils of the animals becoming extinct 260,000 years ago, which is found for the first time in Hebei and is of significant archaeological value. On the upper wall of the cave, there are two Chinese characters “蓬莱”, an authentic calligraphic work by Su Shi, a great man of letters in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the Dragons Palace. white dragons are contending for hegemony. In the Underground Maze, there are winding paths and corridors, which make it mysterious. The sights in Dragons Cave are characterized by mystery, peculiarity and wonder. There are more than 100 natural sights such as Cloud Brook and Flower Path, Magic Pin in the Sea, Small Three Gorges as well as Mountain Gold and Sifter Valley. After the national tourist experts' investigation and reasoning, such human ruins as stone paper, stone valley and stone hair are regarded as rare sights throughout China.

| Longtan Valley [edit this] | | The Longtan Valley lies 15 kilometers north of Mancheng County Seat. It includes two scenic spots, namely, the Longmen Lake and the Longtan Valley. The scenery is exquisite, with green hills and blue water. It enjoys the good reputation of “Small Guilin in the North” (Guilin is a famous place of interest in Guangxi in the south of China) and is a place of interest in Hebei Province.
The Longmen Lake is a man-made lake by making dams against the mountain. The lake and the mountain have merged into an organic whole. The widest part can be scores of meters, which makes the lake very grand and magnificent. Longmen is a natural stone gate and looks like an arching rainbow. The water under Longmen is babbling just like a faery playing qin (a Chinese musical instrument). From Longmen and down the valley, the cliffs are very steep, and are called “One Line Sky”. Standing on the rocks in the valley, with clouds floating overhead and water flowing under your feet, looking downward, you will have a feeling as if you were standing upside down in the sky. From the upper part of the Longtan Valley the spring water pours down, spraying droplets like jewels and jades. The valley is winding and the sound of the flowing water can be heard miles away. At the lower part of the valley, the waterfalls drop, making a sound as loud as that of a thunder, so it was called “Thunder Stream and Spring Waves” in ancient times.
According to folklore, there was a village both on the south and north of the hillock where Longmen lies. Shangjiang Village on the north suffered from flood for years continuously, while Jiao Village, though in a downfold, with the hillock as a natural barrier, was secure. One year, the rain poured down for seven days and nights continuously, and the flood swallowed Shangjiang Village. However, Jiao Hades, the local tyrant of Jiao Village, crowed over the disaster, and clapped and cheered. All this was seen by the Piglet Dragon who was then engaging in a patrol of the water and inspecting the rain. In order to persuade Jiao Hades to beat away the hillock and channel the flood, the Piglet Dragon transformed into a young man to be a hired hand in Jiao Hades mansion, and decided not to rain for three years. But Jiao Hades didn't care about him and pushed him into a well. So the Piglet Dragon started to dig the hillock with his snout. After 49 days of hard work, a hole was dug and part of the floodwater was channeled into Jiao Village. From then on, the two villages had been well clothed and well fed and lived a peaceful life.
