Chicheng Hot Spring, also called Tangquan, is historically named No.1 Spring outside Shanhaiguan Pass. It is 7.5 kilometers West of Chicheng County Seat and 140 kilometers from Zhangjiakou City.

Chicheng is famous for its quiet and beautiful surroundings and pleasant weather. The average annual temperature is between 12.6℃ and 26.1℃. People can keep warm without burning coal and enjoy the cool without fanning themselves. Among the verdant ridges and peaks with luxuriant trees, there are gurgling streams and dimly visible temples. It was recorded in a book by Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty. There are many historic sites here, such as inscriptions on tablets, temples, etc. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, accompanying his grandmother, Empress Dowager Xiao Zhuangwen, stayed and bathed here for more than 50 days. Ji Hongchang, the famous anti-Japanese general of the Republic of China (1912-1949) once came here to wash away the disgrace. Chicheng Hotspring has plenty of water and is composed of the following 6 springs: Chief Spring, Eye Spring, Stomach Spring, Flat Spring, Tracheitis Spring and Cool Spring. The 6 Springs can cure skin disease, stomach trouble, eye disease, respiratory tract trouble and diseases aggravated by cold respectively because of their different water temperatures and chemical elements and therefore are different convalescent homes in the Holiday Resort.

There is a beautiful legend about the origin of the hot spring. In ancient times, there were 12 suns in the sky broiling the earth. A young fellow called Erlang had great strength. He ran after the suns, carrying 12 mountains. He put a mountain on it after he caught a sun. When there left the last one, Erlang was so tired that he died. This is why there is only one sun in the sky now. One of the eleven suns pressed under the mountains was in Chicheng. The spring there scorched by the sun was burning hot and became the Hot Spring.

Feihu Valley is 13 kilometers south of Yuxian County Seat and 180 kilometers from Zhangjiakou City.

It is famous for its fantastic peaks and perilous and secluded ravine. Feihu Valley, winding from south to north, is 20 kilometers long. The widest part of the valley reaches about 100 meters while the narrowest is no more than a dozen meters. The terrain is complicated and dangerous and has acquired an element of mystery and wonder. Sometimes a cliff gets in the way and there seems no way beyond; sometimes amidst sheer precipices a new path suddenly appears. In history it was once a vital passageway, which led to the North China Plain in the south and the deserts beyond the Great Wall in the north. On the mountains there are luxuriant trees, grass and birds. In the valley there is cool breeze gently blowing, soughing of the wind in the pines, and sheer precipices engraved with uncanny workmanship.

According to local inhabitants, there are 72 curves in the 40-li-long Feihu Valley and each curve has a place of unique and enchanting beauty. There are wonderful sceneries everywhere, such as Yizhuxiang Stone, Shuangjiankong (Double arrow Holes), Sanxiansifan Peak (Three Immortals Longing for the Human World), Sijiangshoumen Cliff (Four Generals Guarding the Gate), Wugou Wangyue Stone (Five Dogs Watching or Seeing the Bright Moon) and Liulangzhuang (Liulang Stake), Qinv Peak (Seven Fairy Maidens), Baxian (the Eight Immortals) Cave, etc., which contain numerous wonderful stories and legends inducing fantastic reveries.
